Nice way to ruin a legacy. I love DoomI/II - even more than Blood.
Doom3 was the beginning of the end.

Doom 3 feels more like Resident Evil or something to me. I think they could have had a much better concept for a Doom universe. It still seems pretty damn good on its own terms though, but it's missing the personality

I'm actually very excited about this, I really enjoyed Doom 3 and look forward to Doom 4 a lot.

And with John Carmack focusing only on tech, and the guys at id putting more towards gameplay than cutting edge visuals... it could out to be an awesome title.

*slaps Umnir*

I liked Doom 3, I don't know why people were so disappointed with it, it was exactly the game ID wanted to make, a reimaging of the Doom universe that kept some of the same relentless game mechanics of the original. Doom 3 imho, was a better game than Half-Life 2 was/is

Doom 3 was just chasing Gideon all over again. And you didn't even fight him until the ROE pack.

Unless Doom 4 recreates Doom 2 I couldn't care less.

Gideon? Who? Doom 3's main baddie was Dr. Betruger.

And the announcement did mention Earth, so chances are looking to be as if Doom 4 will take place on Earth. And given the way id's new game engine functions... large outdoor areas would be possible.

I believe Mr.Drakan was refering to Doom 3's storyline being similar to Blood II where the player chases an obscure figure around a variety of locations. From Id's impressions sounds to me Doom II's concept of Hell on Earth but on an advanced engine with Doom 3's sluggish gameplay and dark atmosphere. Therefore count me out.

He was referring to the storyline of Blood 2: Chasing non-existant enemy in endless corridors filled with nothing.

Sounds like F.E.A.R. No wait, that's the same game, right?

Ahhh.... I never took Doom 3's meaning as I was trying to chase down Betruger... I was just trying to get the hell out. :) And Gideon.... well, he was a puss.

With Doom 4 being on Earth and on id Tech 5 it's hard to judge how the game will turn out. Being the only idea of the new engine we have is RAGE's short videos.

Doom 4 and hell on earth theme would be helluva nice. Another nice thing would be forced movement with arrows and no mouse use, just like the good ol' days :D

And of course, more lighting, more original enemies, more original looking and working guns + few new ones and better engine. With better engine I mean it would look better (I have never really cared about graphics) but also with better fps on older systems.

Feast - Whole new game based on GZDoom engine, combining a whole new story with Stroggs, zombies, lawnmowers, steroids and nuclear war. Fucks shit up, dayum.

Well with id Tech 5... the whole point of the engine is to deliver good graphics, but a constant, smooth playable frame rate.

id are actually focusing more so on gameplay instead of their usual stance on cutting edge visuals.
