Sega Genesis/Megadrive

Post by NAto » Oct 3rd, 2011, 16:17

Posty, I need your help!

Could you please recommend me some fantastic Sega Genesis games. I recently got an emulator for my Galaxy S2, but the only experience I have with the Genesis is the games I played at Matt's house.

I'm not too experienced with the console but I'll throw in a few suggestions with even less descriptions. Still, to me, they're the essential Genesis games that the console is all about.

Castlevania: Bloodlines A very solid platformer with a ton of diversity in the environments and probably the best soundtrack* of all genesis games.

*Available below
Spoiler: show
Rocket Knight Adventures A really smooth and different platformer by Konami, tons of challenge and variety in levels.

Ecco the Dolphin You probably know this one already, but it's a really atmospheric adventure game of sorts where you must guide Ecco through puzzles and adversaries in the sea (and in time) to find your lost friends.

Gunstar Heroes A really hectic action game that is probably comparable to Contra or even Metal Slug.

Few ones I want myself but haven't had the chance to properly test out; Shinobi III, Sword of Vermilion, Landstalker, Shining Force 2. There's probably a ton more but that's all I could think of for now.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors. The only Genesis game you'll ever need.

Thanks for the tips, guys :D

J, I actually got Castlevania, I've yet to try it out though.

Joebama, I've heard many people swear by Zombies Ate My Neighbours. What is it about the game that makes it good?

The atmosphere and the game mechanics, it's just so damn fun :)

The only downside to the game is the fact that it still uses a password system. So, every 5 levels you'd get a new password to get to that level if you lost all your lives and had to start over.

Damn straight. Real hardware is where it's at. I'm not completely opposed to eumulators, mind you.

What have you played so far, Nate?

Welcome Shadowface :) I must say that I missed your presence here.

I haven't had much time to play yet (I feel old...), but I think I'm going to do all the Sonicks first.

I remember flashback was a pretty cool one, but can't remember if it was the dos version or the genesis version I played :(
