Doom level...

Post by Bruce777999 » Sep 29th, 2008, 02:44

...got slightly bored with Blood mapping and started a Doom2 level
...after 4 days about 70% done - much easier to map for than Blood
...getting 70% of my first Blood map took me around 7 months

-exaggerated lighting + simple architecture... no high detail gayness
-lotsa secrets, gameplay
-simply Doom

-editor Doombuilder -> fantastic tool
-tested on - Doom2.exe, CDoom.exe, ZDoom.exe, JDoom.exe

-if you've got ideas, thoughts... let me know...

-no worries... my 3 Blood maps will get done

I'm afraid you've inspired me to start mapping again.

STOP DOING THAT.

Somehow reminded me of quake. I tried doom mapping once too, what editor are you using?

@Shadowman - keep mapping -> you can always improve + keep good games alive.

@Umnir - what aspect reminds you of Quake?
I'm using Doombuilder - a free and excellent editor with 3D preview and editing capabilities in this mode.
If such an editor would have been available in 94/95 we would have seen much more and better maps.
Also tried Deepsea, but not my cup of tea + it costs ~20 bucks.

The whole layout somehow just reminded me of quake, and the color scheme + lava. Didn't mean to criticize you, just saying. :)

I think I used the same editor when I tested mapping with doom.. It was pretty easy to use IIRC

For Doombuilder - other more general tutorials seem dead...

I tried to keep the detail to a minimum, to not destroy the Doom look. I hate overdetailed stuff.

I hear you on the overdetailed stuff. It can get cramped and tacky quick if you just keep ading stuff. It's important to not get the player off-track with too much crap. Plus, it can get in the way.
