DEATH WISH Discussion

Post by Bloatoid » Nov 1st, 2011, 01:59

It has arrived at last!

Image

Caleb will need to muster all his strength to take down the mighty Tchernobog,
who has managed to free himself from the grip of death.

Death Wish is a massive new Blood campaign that has been under development since January 2010 and has finally been released. Every level is highly polished, and you may even see a few Mapedit tricks you never thought possible! The creator is a long-time Build veteran who has pulled out all the stops to try and make this the most amazing, original user content for Blood ever released.

Features

  • Over 30 levels spread out across 3 episodes, which includes secret levels and transition levels for flowing smoothly back into the main campaign.

    6 new cut scenes, appearing at the beginning and end of each episode explaining the story and its developments throughout the course of the game.

    New story, taking place after the events of the original Blood and its add-ons while staying within the same mythology.

    The Tome message system, giving the player hints and story tidbits during play to further deepen the story and reveal hints or secrets.

    All the levels have been adapted to be playable in Co-Op mode, so you and up to 7 other friends can tackle Death Wish together.

    All levels include modified enemy and item placement depending on difficulty settings for added replay value. Even long-time Blood pros will find a challenge in Death Wish's brutal Extra Crispy setting.

    A very detailed plain-text Walkthrough is included. It is split into 2 sections: One with the basic player path discussed and the other revealing all available secrets.

    A Commentary text file is included, revealing the creator and lead QA tester's thoughts on Death Wish and its content.

    A detailed README file is included, ensuring that everyone can get things working properly even on varying file system configurations.

    Simple drag-and-drop installation — no confusing or malfunctioning installers.

Haha that was fast.

I updated my blog with the links, also. When I get approved by ModDB I'll take down the MediaFire and Filedropper links.

If someone could remove those from the OP in this thread after I get approval that would be very helpful. It'll probably happen tomorrow.

In the meantime it would appear Freeminded has a 20MB limit while Death Wish is over 50MB. It's mostly because I suck at compressing those Smacker movie files — the levels alone are only a little over 10MB, although you need the movies to know what's going on :?

If you email (I forgot his name but he runs the blood freeminded page), he'll upload it himself. Just tell him what you want it to say and he'll upload it under your username. You can even edit the settings afterwards. :wink:

I'm enjoying the add-on more than the original game! In the second level, I tried to squeeze between two trees and got killed, lol. I found the secret level which is awesome! I love the part when you go underwater in the cellar but when you come back up everything is fire and brimstone! I also love the moving sectors/vehicles. I think this is the best add-on created EVER. It uses the editor's full potential. Some of the errors I found were so minor that I already forgot them. The flashing lights on the stage in Spooky World almost gave me an epileptic seizure! :P

Yeah, some things like getting smashed between trees are engine bugs that I tried to reduce as much as I could. I'm sure there are errors here and there but hopefully nothing big. Honestly the vehicles/subways/etc have the highest glitch potential out of anything in Death Wish.

I'm glad you found the secret level. You must be doing a lot of exploration. :)

Cutscenes don't work. I located the stuff right for each 3 episodes in dw -ini. Here's what it looks like:
[Episode1]
CutSceneA=C:\DOSBox70\Blood\dw1a.smk
CutWavA=C:\DOSBox70\Blood\dw1a.wav
CutSceneB=C:\DOSBox70\Blood\dw1b.smk
CutWavB=C:\DOSBox70\Blood\dw1b.wav
Note: I use DOSBox v0.74 but keep my DOS games in v0.70's directory. I drag and drop the Blood directory or exe/bat to v0.74's shortcut image.

The Blog has an updated post addressing cut scene issues.

I'll update the README file that comes with Death Wish once we're sure we've covered all the issues.

So I opened dw.ini , removed the file paths so that it only read "CutSceneA=dw1a.smk" and Hey-Presto! Lovely DeathWish Intro.
Thanks, it worked. I played the first map which looks excellent! The part made me laugh when the Cabal arrived with a cart that exploded and one of the ackolytes got blown up away. )

Did the audio play when you did that? I had one guy who said this technique worked but it broke the soundtrack for the movie. He had to add c:\ in front of everything to get audio.

God-damn-it! .... Thanks Bloatoid!

I'm playing the first episode right now( I'm on map 7... didn't found all secrets but killed almost everything :D ) and to my mind it's much better than 'Cryptic Passage' and the original Blood combined.

I'll finish the first episode on my own and at this weekend I'll play the rest with one or two friends :) ...
Okay I'll enjoy the rest of episode 1 now....
Thanks one more time! :D
