Heads up, new map

Post by Tekedon » Dec 28th, 2013, 22:41

I've finished up one of my maps started quite some time ago. "The Slums" is now on blood.freminded.de. Check it out! :) This is the first urban-style map I've made.

Yeehaw!! Damn that is a great map. I'm gonna tout this as maybe the single greatest stand-alone user map ever made for Blood. What I like best about the map is a there is a great sense of balance throughout and you didn't get too over-indulgent with filling the screen with too much stuff (sprites, etc) and you kept some of the neat things like
Spoiler: show
the monkey wrestling cage in-step with the way the original Blood episodes would have done something like that in the same manner.
The atmosphere is quite stunning and made to great effect and the map is very nice to look at. I loved the bits with the
Spoiler: show
floating trash caught up in the wind-storm, the cinema area with the rotating sign and the lit up inaccessible city area in the far off distance. A bit of normality far out of reach! The train that passes in front of that creepy house in the distance is yet another great bit. I love the innocent that was standing on the last car, nice and funny attention to detail. Then we have a nice surprise at the very end with the creepy little wrestler monkey. Nice use of the light flashes to add emphasis.

My hat goes off to you, Mr. Tekedon! Well done! Make moar!!

This map brings me to a point that I want to make. At this point in Blood's history, I dont think there has ever been a time that the Blood community (as small as it may be) has seen such an outpouring of great user-made episodes and maps that has been created in the past 5 or 6 years. It seems like Blood just keeps getting better and better with age.

I just finished it,
really very funny and good :)

Why do you always create single maps ? I would really like to play an extensive addon from you :)

Glad you guys liked the map so much! :D I saw something special myself in this map and that's why it was the first candidate to be finished.
Main reason why I don't create episodes is lack of time. I'm a father now and I also have a job. Making an episode alone would take years. Slums took about a year and one month, keeping in mind I had a big break ofcourse. And while I understand realeasing single maps is a shortlived experience I also think that by doing this I can give these maps more time and really make them look and play good, so it's also due to keep the quality up. But you never know, I won't say I'll never create an episode.
