Blood walkthrough, Episode 1: The Way of All Flesh

Mission 1 : Cradle to Grave


This is the level that kicks off the awesome game. I'm sure everyone should be able to finish this one, but I'll help you out anyway.

You begin in a body you no longer know. The roof of your sarcophagus slides away and you leap out it. Go around the corner to the right and open the sliding doors with the cross on. Thus your unholy quest begins!

Once you have exited your tomb, you are greeted with the fresh smell of the outside world, destroy the zombies outside and move down the steps to the right of the outside area. Move along the gate and you'll Find a gate at the bottom of the steps, slide the gate open and enter the front garden of the Morningside funeral home. The front door requires the skull key, which can be found in the nearby graveyard, to your right. Kill the zombies and there will be a cultist hiding in the doorway of the nearby tomb. Kill him and take the key to the front door of Morningside. As you exit from the graveyard you are faced with the following challenging shortcut:

You can jump on the tombstone, then onto the gate and break through that window if you want, it may take a bit of time and co-ordination and you might get a nasty surprise if you break through, but at least you'll be able to surprise some of your opponents expecting you to use the front door...

Let's assume you entered through the front door. Open for business! The ominous organ sounds in the background, mixed with the sight of the corpse and defiled sign up ahead give one a bad feeling about the place. Go around one of the corners and enter the main room of the building. Kill your enemies and move through the curtains to the right of the room. There should be an organ in front of you. To your right, there are two paths, a sloped wooden surface and a dark passage leading to the morgue section of the building. Proceed to the green morgue area.

Take a right turn and continue until you see the grey sign on the wall that reads: "Crematorium." Enter into this room and kill the cultist and rats inside. Grab the dagger key and exit the room through the way you came in. Turn to your right and then turn to your right again when you see the barrel marked: "TNT." Proceed down the passage to the cold stone doors which need the dagger key. Open the doors, turn to the right and then exit the building via the convient hole blown in the wall to your left. Saved you the trouble of doing it yourself anyway. Drop in on the cultists below and make short work of them. Turn to your left and press the seal of Tchernobog (the symbol with the red outline and the horns on) and you have completed the first level of many.

Mission 2 : Wrong Side of the Tracks


You begin this level facing the hole in the wall which you saw from the previous level. The hole has now been blown open and you can pass through. You find yourself on a rail and there is a train carriage with a crack on the back and TNT barrels in front of it. Blow up the barrels and proceed blasting your way through the carriage. You enter a large yard with a carriage in the middle. At the right end of the carriage is a door which you cannot reach because it is blocked by the carriage. Move through or around the carriage to the other side of it. Beware of the zombies which prowl inside of it. You will see a button attached to a metal control box of sorts. Press the button to rotate the carriage and proceed through the now revealed door.

You go down a dark passage and end up in a deceivingly peaceful place. Continue along the path and you'll find a large doorway which reads : "Miskatonic Station" move through this door and enter the main room of the train station. You'll have to be alert in here as you are attacked from several different angles. A sign reads : "Tickets" above a small kiosk which can only be entered from behind. The bars in front of the kiosk are indestructable. Enter the kiosk and destroy the cultists inside and pick up the moon key. Proceed through the passage with the shield symbol and "Miskatonic station" written above at the end. Turn right and then right again and proceed up the stairs to an area that should have a strange lighting effect; a light that slowly lights up and then dims and repeats this process. The moon key door will be at the end of the passage. Open it and collect the fire key inside, but beware for a sneak attack by enemies when you collect it!

Once you have the fire key, retreat back to the area with the shield symbol. Turn left at the shield symbol and climb the flight of stairs. Proceed down the passage and turn right. You'll see a notice board up ahead and if you enter that room you'll be able to see a gate to your right. Open the gate and move down the dark path. You'll hear a strange sound as a train arrives at the station. Looks like my train's come in! The front of the train holds the seal of Tchernobog. Press it.

Mission 3 : Phantom Express


This is an exciting and action packed level that takes place on a train! Quite a major feature of Blood at the time. This level is very straightforward, but I'll help you out anyway.

You begin on the front of the train, if it pleases you, you may watch the poor saps who happened to wander onto the tracks get smashed. But now, to business.

Proceed around the locomotive of the train and you'll find the coal stashed in an area. Climb the coal and enter the first carriage. The doors are all locked in this compartment, so you have to keep moving. Pass through the first area that links the two carriages together and move into the second carriage.

There are lots of skull key doors around and the only way to go is forward, so keep moving. Go through the second joining compartment and enter the storage room. The storage room can be pretty scary if you're not sure what you're doing, but check every nook and cranny until you know it for certain. Beware of zombie ambushes!

Pass through the third and final joining compartment and enter the dining room. There are many cultists here, so stay sharp. If you're lucky, you may be able to blast one out of a window and laugh as his blood is sprayed everywhere outside the train. Collect the skull key on the back left table and fight off the pathetic zombie attack which results. Move back through the compartments until you find on your left, a grey door which requires the skull key. Open the door and activate the elevator here. When you reach the second floor, the fire key will be right in your face. Collect it and go down the elevator again. Proceed to the locomotive of the train and open the fire key door. Proceed to the back of the room and there should be a button. Press the button to disable the safety clamp and then hit the two engine switches. This will cause the engine to explode, so hide behind the wall or get out of the room. The level finishes once the engine explodes.

There is a problem with this level as far as the super secret goes. Because two innocents spawn when you get the goods in the super secret, your kill count seems to be increased by two, but killing the innocents doesn't satisfy the count. What I'm saying is that you'll always be two kills short of the maximum. But don't worry, it's just a glitch. If you're two below the kill count, you got all of those bastards!

Mission 4 : Dark Carnival


You begin in the train you destroyed. You can see the remains of certain engine parts, chairs and passengers scattered about. Exit this steamy ruin and turn right, there should be a high dirt hill in front of you. Turn right again and fight the enemies around the corner. Proceed through the passage which they guard. You'll see a sign that reads : "Carnival" Woah! This promises to be fun!

Fall out of the passage and turn right and follow the path. Turn left and you'll find a bridge with fanatics on the other side of it. Eliminate the opposition and cross the bridge. Kill the guy in the ticket booth while you're at it! If you turn right after crossing the bridge you'll see revolving doors. Step through them and go past the guy that asks for tickets. After you enter that large area, feel free to explore the various games and events that you find everywhere. Kill those damn mimes while you're at it. The way you want to go can be found at the end of the room. There will be a slope and a straight piece of ground. Walk along the straight piece, turn right and you'll be greeted with a similar scenario; more events and games! If you continue moving forward you'll find on your upper left there is a large sign that says : "Freaks" Enter through the curtain under here. Move through the area filled with freaks behind and bars (and some that should be!) and exit it. You'll find a door on your right with Jo-Jo written above it. Enter this door and you'll find yourself in a large room with a snake pit and a sitting area to watch this ridiculous act.

Unfortunately, you have to be the clown in this case. Activate the elevator found on the left pole and climb to the top. You then have to walk the tight-rope over the snake pit and collect the dagger key on the opposite end. You have to go back down the way you came up, unless you feel like a little fall (not recommended!). There are two doors once you reach the bottom - the way you came in and another door. Use the other door and exit the room. Once you've exited, if you look left you'll see the punch-o-meter in the distance. Go to it and turn right. You should be able to see the door that accesses the ticket booth, which requires the dagger key. Move into this booth and collect the eye key, then exit the way you came in.

If you move right and then left, to face the open area. You'll see a small area on the lefthand side of the room roped off. Move through this passage and open the eye key door. Explore the room with the happy-go-pukey and try to ride a gargoyle if you like... but not the living one! Kill the gargoyle and take the moon key and exit through the passageway that says : "Exit" above it. Continue through the passage until you reach a door. Open it and on the opposite side of the room will stand the moon key door. Approach it and open it and then turn right. The bridge you were meant to cross explodes! So you have to take a swim. Dive into the water and move through the dark underwater passage until you find a place to surface. When you surface there will be huge door with the seal of Tchernobog on it. Press it.

This level has a path to reach the secret level! Read the secret guide to find out where it is!

Mission 5 : Hallowed Grounds


Episode one starts getting nasty here. Everything in this level looks similar, so it'll be difficult to help out, but I'll try my best.

You begin facing a garden like area. You can hear the voices of the damned speaking to you in this unholy place. Lightning strikes from the sky randomly at this desecrated place.

Pass through the garden area and enter the building on the opposite side. Turn around the left corner and then turn right. There will be a green tiled mat-like object on the floor. Move along this path until you find the wooden double doors on your left. Open them and move to the next set of doors. Open these doors and proceed forwards. Note the moon key door on your right and the skull key door on your left. Continue along the passage and open the next set of doors. You find yourself in a hall filled with enemies. Gargoyles are now commonplace in this world. You'll see the skull key spinning in the distance ahead of you when you first enter this grand hall.

Running for the skull key, a nasty surprise is in store for you. The way back to the hall is sealed up behind you and what's worse... the wall ahead of you has opened to set loose an army of zombies!

Once you've annhialated the zombies, go through the door on the right. There is another hall through this doorway. You can see wooden doors on the opposite side of the room. Be sure to check that chamber, for there is a napalm launcher inside. When you enter this hall. Go through the passage on the northeast side of the chamber. The passage will be blocked, but a pool of water will be on your right. Dive into the water and continue forward until you find a switch. Pull the switch and return to the passage which is now unblocked. You'll find yourself in a fairly light hallway with a metal object on the opposite wall. When you approach it, it transforms to form teeth. This is when you first hear the voice of Tchernobog : "You'll know what to do when the time comes!" Panels will open on either side of you. Go down the left passage and open the curtains at the end of it. Fall down into the hall and go left down the passage until you find the skull key door. Hit the switch to open the bars which need the skull key to pass and pass through them.

Take a right and follow the passage until you reach a large garden location. There will be a door on the far left side of the area. Go through the door and collect the moon key. The metal gate will lower, allowing you access to the original hallway you entered the building through. Continue along the path until you find the moon key door. Go through the moon key door and go down the flight of stairs. When you reach the bottom, take a sharp right and you'll hear Tchernobog say : "Two portals lead to certain death. Choose wisely..." There are three doors in front of you and Tchernobog is known not to lie. So you'd best be careful. Do you remember what Tchernobog said before? The symbol which you saw matches the door you need to open. For those of you who cannot figure out this simple puzzle, the door on the left is the correct one. Move through the door, take a left and you'll be facing a bridge that crosses over a very deep hole. Cross the bridge and a gate will be in front of you with the seal of Tchernobog on.

This level is very big and it's easy to get lost, but don't worry! It's easy to find your way back to a familiar location. There are many different paths to victory in this level, the above is just one of
them.

Mission 6 : The Great Temple


This is indeed a vast temple. This level is loaded with cultists and fanatics, so keep your ears tuned for the sound of bullet fire.

You begin this level on the opposite side of the gate at the end of the previous level. You hear the whispers of the damned sounding in your ears.

Proceed forwards and take a turn to the left after the zombie ambush. You have to jump into the water. Find the underwater passage and move along it. When you come out of the passage, take a left turn and move parallel to the pillars until you hit the wall. Turn right and then left when you find the underwater passage. Surface when you see the water's top. Leap out of the water and continue following the path until you reach the bridge. Move to the opposite side of the bridge and push the button. One of the walls will open to form a doorway. Move through the doorway, turn left and continue moving until you reach the skull key door. Then turn left and go into the green stone slab area.

Turn right and go into the room with the reflective shots on the opposite end. Collect the reflective shots and backtrack. Several rooms will have opened, leading to an area with yellow coloured stone slabs. Go into this room.

You get ambushed by zombies. Once you destroy them, your way is made clear and you can pick up the skull key. Once you pick up the skull key, turn around and walk through the passage that has now opened. The passage is pretty straightforward. Continue moving until you find a switch that needs the fire key to be activated. In this room there will be two switches up the grey flights of steps press them and the fire key will reveal itself to you. Then hit the fire key switch and move down the passage. Beware of the fireballs!

Keep along the path until you're in a dark area, there will be an altar to behind you at this point with the spider key on. Pickup the key and move along the passage that has now opened, up the spiral staircase and until you collect the moon key in the room overlooking the sea of clouds. Then continue along the original passage you were on. The moon key door can be found at the end of it. Open the door and a portal will be revealed to you. Step into it.

You find yourself in a large, fairly round room. Press the pillar in the center with the guns akimbo on top of it. It will lower. Pick up the guns akimbo and you'll hear the sound of a structure in motion. The walls are turning and an army of zombies has just presented itself to you. Slaughter the zombies and be patient. The room will rotate again and an army of cultists will charge at you. Kill the cultists and wait. The room will rotate and reveal fanatics and gargoyles. Destroy the enemies and walk into the room they came out of. The seal of Tchernobog is at the far side of the room they came out of.

Mission 7 : Altar of Stone


This is the final level of the first episode. You fight Cheogh and sometimes another stone gargoyle too! (On the higher difficulties) Cheogh is very powerful but pump him full of lead and he'll die eventually. Try to avoid his spectral gaze, as it will kill you ultra quickly.

When you begin the level, go up one of the side paths and approach the alter with Ophelia (the corpse) attached. Caleb will scream and Cheogh will reveal himself. Destroy Cheogh to win the level and complete the episode.

Mission 8 : House of Horrors


You begin in a smooth, stone environment. Proceed through the passage in front of you until you reach a metal gate. Open the gate and you'll see a large evil clown face on the opposite wall. Open the clown's mouth by pressing it. The mouth will open to a freaky, fleshy passage. Proceed down the passage and take a turn to the left. There will be another ticket booth on your right and if you continue forward the river ride of terror will be on your left. Step onto the water and let the water guide you along the ride. You'll first hit an uncomfortably large cobweb which you must break using whatever weapon you have.

As you continue along the ride a gate will lower to block your path. On your left will be a cage with zombies in. Break the bars using any weapon you have an kill the zombies. You'll hear : "Security breach at the zombie cage! Security breach at the zombie cage" and a wall will open the opposite side of the water. Kill the cultists in the chamber and hit the switch. The gate which blocked your path is now open. You may continue the ride.

You'll come to a part of the ride that is still under construction. If you don't hit the breaks quick you'll become part of the scenery down below! Take a quick left and there will be an elevator in front of you. Go down and pulverize the fanatics below. Jump onto the water and continue your crazy ride. Eventually you'll hear a breathing sound coming from the mouths on either side on you. You'll enter a large area with a possible shortcut seen below:

You can actually leap onto that opposite ledge. This will save you the trouble of going underwater, which most people are not very fond of...

Let's assume you're going the underwater way. Fall down onto the water below. Some is shallow, but there is a deep section. Dive into the deep water and you'll find an underwater passage. The end of the passage is blocked but there is a room to the left of the passage that controls the water flow. Enter this room and hit the switch on the right hand wall. The passage will now be clear. Continue until you surface.

You surface in a torture chamber. Zombies will attack from all sides, so keep your wits about you. There will be a door which needs the skull key. There is a passage on the opposite side of the room, from the pendulum. Go down the passage until you collect the skull key. Return to the torture chamber and open the skull key door. Continue until you find a long passage with flesh walls. Turn left and move along the passage until you reach a dead end. Then turn around and you'll see a small wooden door. Enter that room to go to the storage area. The flesh passage is filled with cultists and is quite insane on extra crispy mode.

When you enter the storage chamber, leap out of the window on the opposite end of the room. If you turn right you should be able to see wooden beams nailed in an X shape. Break the wooden beams and enter the grassy area. Continue moving forward until you have to turn right. There will be some TNT barrels against the opposite wall. Destroy them and a passage will open. This passage takes you back to the beginning of the ride. If you don't feel like taking a ride again, search the hidden passage until you find a pool of water. Move into the water and swim until you find a place to surface. Surface and you'll find a huge wooden door with the seal of Tchernobog on. Press it.
